Purdue’s superhero - Rudy Giuliani

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/may/22/rudy-giuliani-opioid-epidemic-oxycontin-purdue-pharma

“The former New York mayor also secured an agreement that greatly restricted further prosecution of the pharmaceutical company and kept its senior executives out of prison.”

-I am surprised on the deal Purdue received which avoided criminal conviction in a way. Rudy Giuliani was really Purdue’s savor.
-What is your thought on the deal they achieved?

  1. This was quite the compromise for Purdue and Guiliani. I'm willing to bet he utilized his political connects, as he was the mayor of New York. Although I'm glad Brownlee is the first to secure a criminal conviction against Purdue, there have to be more to come. Our legal system needs to set a stronger example against what was clearly an immoral set of business practices.

    1. I agree...the judicial system should not be part of the whole system that enables Big Pharma to thrive at the expense of millions of Americans' lives.

    3. The connections around the business world today are never ending, it is not surprising to the extent they go. It's hard to say that I am against connecting people, but this type of power shouldn't have pull in regards to criminal cases.

  2. I would have love to be a fly on the wall for those meetings. I'm not exactly sure what Guiliani gets in return for this type of deal. Political credibility with big executives?

  4. I think big pharma needs to be held more accountable and we also need people in political power to be more willing to hold them responsible.

  5. I agree. Th government should set more strict standards and big pharma should be more careful before releasing the new drug. Besides, doctors have obligation because patients are vulnerable, and they utilize doctors as a source of drug.
