Medication-Assisted Treatment

https://drugfree.org/parent-blog/medication-assisted-treatment/

I did not know anti-craving medications such as Naltrexone, Buprenorphine and Methadone existed.
-Have you heard about these anti-craving medications? If so, what is your input on it?

Do you think it is helpful? Should we consider this as a reliable option for treatment?

  1. Heard about Medications for Alcohol Cravings before, and it said such medication si helpful. Some scientists have found that almost all addiction, including alcohol, cocaine, nicotine, and even gambling, has the same addiction model. So If Medications for Alcohol Cravings is helpful, then the similar medication would also be helpful for drug addiction. The anti-craving medications works theoretically, but not sure if it is true in the real world.

  2. I have not heard of these prior to reading this. I think they could be helpful to those looking for treatment for their addiction. If the addict does not want to actively seek treatment, I do not think they would be very useful. But overall, sounds like a good product.

  3. I think they work well in conjunction with therapy and more comprehensive treatments. I think that this class revealed how each addict has a different path to addiction and how each one of them has very personal and deep issues that they need to address in order to tackle the addiction.

  4. I feel like this is a reliable option for treatment, but only temporarily. There should be a more long term treatment, that doesn't necessarily involve medication.

  5. I have heard about Naltrexone, which is being used with the anti depressant bupropion in an craving weight lose drug called Contrave. It has become popular in the past year.

Its also interesting like Victoria mentioned that the drug used to help with drug cravings is more regulated than the opioids that cause the addiction.

  7. I have heard of Suboxone before as well. It has been criticized as being the solution to opioids because there is potential for abuse, some say it's just "substituting one drug for another" (which I don't agree with). I think these pills will help tremendously if regulated (price and amount prescribed) and if used alongside engaging approaches like therapy it would help tremendously.

  8. Drugs such as these are definitely helpful for recovering addicts, however I would like to see that science behind these drugs, to make sure they are actually safe to use and it isn't just another marketing ploy by big pharma.

  9. I have not heard of these drugs, however, they seem like viable options to help alleviate addiction. There is obviously no true cure/solution to eliminate addiction, but like Guillermo said, these drugs would work well in conjunction with other treatments and therapies.
