Esteemed Lawyer Sues Big Pharma

According to this article by Independent, esteemed Mississippi lawyer Mike Moore is the primary lawyer for Mississippi in the lawsuit from my first post, in regards to multiple states suing Purdue Pharma. Moore is most well known for a case he was a part of in the 1990s, specifically for holding tobacco companies accountable for making false claims about cigarettes in their marketing campaigns.

Personally, I’m glad that someone who has experience with holding companies who market addictive products falsely accountable will be representing Mississippi in court. What are your thoughts on this?

  1. I think having a lawyer with such experience will bode well for the case, but I do not think this case will serve a huge role in solving the opioid epidemic. I think regulations need to be created to thwart big pharma's power within the opioid community. But this case should help raise awareness.

  2. I agree with Victoria. As I mentioned in your last blog, our legal system is slower to react based off of how much evidence is needed to win the fight against these companies and how long these trials tend to drag on. But this is definitely a step in the right direction and having more people like Mike Moore definitely helps.

  3. Agreed! Establishing precedent etc. can take so long.

  4. I think Mike Moore's experience with the similar case of the tobacco companies makes him well equipped to represent Mississippi in this case, but it's definitely going to be a while before anything happens. This is unfortunate and I agree with Victoria that there should definitely be more laws to regulate the actions of pharma companies. It may take some time, but the outcome could be worth the wait.

  5. "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." This is a good step in the right direction in the fight against big pharma. Hopefully many more will follow suit.

  6. Lawyer may not take all the responsibilities, because what they do should match professional ethics, which means they should agree and follow the "facts" that principal tells.
