"National Prescription Drug Take Back Day"

https://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/rockland/2018/04/13/rockland-medication-disposal/514801002/

"Most misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including someone else’s medication being stolen from the home medicine cabinet, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health."

A goal of the program is to prevent prescription opioids from being diverted to addicts. This just goes to show how widespread and abundant that opioids are and how far addicts are willing to go to attain them. Kudos to Rockland County and the DEA for implementing this program; many other communities should take note and follow suit.

"Officials said the drug take-back became successful in October, with more than 162 New York police departments participating at 242 sites and collecting almost 38,000 pounds of drugs."

The take back program is also a step up from the previous methods of disposing drugs through the toilet and in the trash. Feel free to leave your thoughts down below.

  1. It really makes sense that those who are abusing prescription drugs obtain them through family and friends because it's a discrete way of getting them at the same time they have unlimited access to them. This program seems like a new and positive way for prescriptions drugs to be removed from those that abuse them, but going back to the last post from Friday. Will this really help stop those who use them to mange pain or just lead to them finding something stronger and more dangerous.

    1. Your last statement is interesting. We need to find the main, root cause of opioid addiction to be able to answer what kind of repercussions would occur for different suitable actions taken.
