Everything You Know About Heroin Addiction Is Wrong

Thought this was an interesting short video coming from the point of view of a heroin addict. Clears up some misconceptions about the drug created by Hollywood. It also showed some of the side effects that I never knew were a thing! Give it a watch!

Was there anything that stood out to you in the video? Did you learn anything?

  1. "It was like drinking without the hangover" and "I wasn't using heroin for heroin, I was using it to avoid other problems in my life" These quotes from the video stood out as key factors that would lead to addiction in my opinion.

    1. These stuck out to me too. It reminded me of the Chris Herren story.

  2. Great video! It reminds me of the TED talk we watched in class that talked about how addiction can often occur as a result of people trying to get away from problems/extenuating circumstances in someone’s life.

  3. Education is key to helping to fix the opioid epidemic. The more people that understand addiction and what these people are going through, the more likely they will help address they key issues that will help combat this crisis.

  4. I discussed this in a different class before. A lot of people are predisposed to being some sort of addict, or unhealthy with their life choices, because of their situation. This stems from them not thinking much of their lives or social status, so they abuse drugs in order to run away from it.

  5. I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of heroine by the majority of the US population. Much of the use stems from other factors, not simply out of a want to use heroine. Good video.

  6. Did not know about the specific withdrawals until now (I thought it was mainly physical pain). Nice video!

    1. I also didn't know about the withdrawal symptoms also. People don't realize a lot of addicts use these drugs like medicine to remedy the pain

  7. It also reflects the opinion in Chasing the Scream, that people are vulnerable to addiction if they are alone. Punishment, isolation, and humiliation are undoubtedly pushing drug addicts into another irrecoverable abyss. Drug addicts should be encouraged to establish connections.
